A Local’s Guide to Mexico City

Mexico City isn’t just the country’s capital, it’s the beating heart of Mexico’s artistic and cultural identity. Our local expert, Brenda, took us on an epic tour of the best things to see (and eat!) the Mexico City.

Hey there! I'm Brenda, a born-and-raised chilanga. Mexico City is pure magic—this place is a beautiful chaos of color, flavor, and history. We live among pyramids and murals, colonial buildings and street graffiti. And the food? It’s a dream. CDMX is loud, proud, and full of life, and honestly, there’s no place like it.

Museo Antropologí

Mexico City has more museums than almost anywhere in the world! My personal favorite is the Anthropology Museum—it’s huge and diverse, containing everything from human origins to the history of pre-hispanic cultures in Mexico, with sculptures and models. It also houses one of the most important relics of Aztecs, the Aztec Calendar.

Paseo de la Reforma

Like in Madrid has the Gran Via and Paris has the Champs-Élysées, Mexico City has Reforma, a big avenue that connects the biggest park of the city, Chapultepec, with downtown. It’s full of stores, restaurants, and some of the most emblematic sculptures and buildings in the city. You can see the Angel de la Independencia, the tallest skyscrapers, and Chapultepes castle in a single stroll.

la Roma Neighborhood

My neighborhood, the beautiful and historical la Roma, has some of the best restaurants in the city— La Rosetta, Lardo, Roxy, and more. Many artists have made their home here, including the director Alfonso Cuaron, who actually made a movie called “Roma” in memory of the neighborhood that he grew up in.

Suadero Tacos

Mexico is known for many things—the culture, mariachi, tequila—but most importantly, tacos! In Mexico City, there are many types of tacos and places to eat them. My personal favorite is Suadero, a Mexico City original. I can say that few places in in Mexico City have a bad Suadero. Enjoy it with salsa and a fresh horchata water!

El Zocalo

El Zocalo is the heart of this beautiful and chaotic city. This is where we celebrate the new year, our country’s independence, concerts, and more—it always feels so alive! This is where you’ll find the best churros, juicy elotes, and all the street food you could ever want. The streets are full of fabrics, paper supplies, crafts, home goods, souvenirs, and more!
